Roy Webster Vorhees was born in Seneca, Kansas, on January 17, 1890. He was educated at the University of Nebraska (1908-1909) and then worked in construction with his brothers and his father, a contractor. From 1919-1921 he was a construction superintendent for the architectural firm of Rapp, Rapp and Hendrickson. Following Hendrickson’s death, Vorhees formed a partnership with Francis W.
